Drinking water is not Sexy

Drinking water is not Sexy

Let’s face it, drinking water is not “sexy” and it seems like a hassle, especially when there are so many other delicious drinks that are so enticing besides water.

Picture me at 13 or 14 years old drinking Coke for breakfast! How did that happen? My mother had very strict parents and she decided she would just allow her daughters do whatever they wanted. We wanted coke for breakfast! Yes, me, the dietitian/nutritionist who is writing this today! We drank Coke for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I have the dental work to show for it! Thankfully, I came to my senses and switched to Ginger-ale by college! Yes, I thought Ginger-ale was better for me because it was lighter! Go figure! My friends said that “lighter” sodas did not cause cellulitis, so I switched and continued to drink sodas throughout my teens and early 20’s.

Besides sodas, people drink juice for breakfast, coffee all morning and alcohol at night. The human body is amazingly resilient!

Imagine what a difference it would make to flood your body with water: Purified, crystalline water! As I sit writing to you here, I have a 20 oz glass of water I’ve been sipping on all morning. The only reason I do this is because it makes me feel like a million bucks!

We’re at least 60% water, which means every single cell in your body can benefit from a bit of hydration.

Let’s think about what happens first thing in the morning: When you wake up and you’ve been asleep for at least 8 hours, your body has been working on digestion and absorption of everything you ate during the last 24 hrs. Your cells are dehydrated and so ready to get rid of the waste products of metabolism. Water is vital to help your body function the way it was meant to function.

If you drink two glasses of water, before breakfast, it’s like washing your insides. Your joints will feel better, your dry eyes will suddenly not feel so dry, your bowels will work better because they have lubrication. Your organs, blood vessels, brain and even your skin will thank you for it and most of all, you’ll be able to have regular, normal bowel movements every day!

Give it a try! Here are 7 ways in which drinking two cups of water in the morning before breakfast can help you:

    1. Improves constipation: When you add water to your body first thing in the morning it has a positive effect on your ability to eliminate waste throughout the day.
    2. Helps you lose weight: Studies have shown that drinking a cup of water before meals can help you lose weight by increasing satiety at mealtime.
    3. Relieves muscle and joint pain: Water helps to lubricate your joints.
    4. Relieves dry eye syndrome: Adding water to your diet has been shown to improve symptoms of “dry eye”.
    5. Helps you digest your food better: Water is necessary in order to digest and absorb nutrients from food more effectively.
    6. Help your brain stay focused: Drinking sufficient water helps your brain stay sharp and focused; studies have shown that even mild dehydration can affect concentration,
    7. Helps you detoxify your body. Check HERE my video on How to detoxify through Hydration

Where to start? If you’re not drinking water on a regular basis, add one cup of water before each meal to your routine. You may add some sliced fruit or cucumber to your water to give it a bit of flavor. It’s recommended that you drink at least half of your weight in pounds in ounces of water. I hope you will give this a try. Your body will thank you in so many ways!
